Print Media

I have made a new venture into the world of Print Media as a part of my BFA. These are the beginning's of my process to learning about Print so I will be also sharing when things don't work out 100% as I want this to be a progression as I learn and grow!

Types of Print Media

Silk Screen

Silk Screen prints are a stencil process in which ink is printed using a squeegee, through the meshes of a silk screen. Usually with many layers printed on top to create the whole image!

Copper Plate

A copper plate print is a print produced by the process of etching into the copper plate. Ink is then coated on the plate and slowly wiped away using a tarlatan. Then printed on da paper through a printing press!

Lino Cut

Lino cut is a print made from a design carved in a block of linoleum to create a "relief" print. (You carve out the negative space) Then you roll ink onto the plate, put damp paper on top and put through a printing press!

Silk Screen

In my last semester of my BFA I got to learn silk screen or screen printing for the first time. It is a skill I have been very excited to learn since I started to learn print media. I am still very new to this medium/process, these works below are the beginnings. I plan to work more and utilize this skill to create even greater works.

Right to Exist

For this assignment, we were challenged with creating a poster for a topic that makes us want to scream. For me I not only chose a topic that I want to scream about but I chose the words that I want to scream from the rooftops. The words, “Leave Trans People Alone!” creating a plea with the people making it unsafe for trans and gender nonconforming individuals to simply exist.

This is a five layer silk screen, printed eight times to create the layered effect it needed.

Loser Baby

This design is a five layer silk screen with hand painted gold tooth and extra hearts.

Based on a line from the song "Loser Baby", this is my version of Angel Dust from Hazbin Hotel.

Copper Plate

I have taken two classes on Copper Plate Etching as a part of my BFA at UFV. I have worked on learning it over the last year of my BFA, though I am definitely still learning and feel as though I am just scratching the surface. I have experimented a lot and am excited for the possibilities still to come!

This is a dual copper plate, wallpaper design. I have more plans for how to incorporate it into future works, so stay tuned for that!

This is two 9 x 12 in copper plates printed on a 11 x 15 in Stonehenge paper.

This is a 9 x 12 in copper plate etching on white Stonehenge paper. It is an addition of 20, 10 of which went to a print exchange at UBC Vancouver!

Inspired by Art Nouveau and Victorian Baroque ornaments.

Peeony

Part of an ongoing series

This is a 9 x 12 in plate printed on white Stonehenge paper, it has the option to be a repeating wallpaper design.

I created this work, to explore the bold and provocative symbolism of intertwining the delicate beauty that both the nature of the peonies and penises share. Although still understanding the juxtaposition of peonies and phallic imagery to represent a dialogue between femininity and masculinity. This aims to break down traditional boundaries and foster a more inclusive perspective on beauty and the naked body.

Lino Cut

Lino Cut was my first introduction to print media in 2020. I have experimented with it over the years but haven't properly documented or made designs of enough substance yet. I plan on continuing to explore it, so stay tuned!
